The Miss America Organization is one of the nation's leading achievement programs and the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance.      The Miss Columbia Scholarship Program has been crowning young ladies since 1937. Miss Wayring Smathers was not only crowned Miss Columbia that year, but went on to be the first Miss South Carolina. Since then, Miss Columbia has won the title of Miss South Carolina eleven times. In 1994, Kimberly Aiken continued on to win the coveted title of Miss America, representing not only our state, but our hometown of Columbia as well.
